For those who are assessing the many learning management systems in the market today, we offer Sakai Authentic Pilots. The pilot provides access to a fully supported and branded instance of Sakai so that you and your colleagues can asses Sakai at whatever level you choose.
For the Sakai Authentic Pilot, Longsight will:· Host a dedicated instance of the latest version of Sakai for three to twelve months.
· Have the pilot ready for your use as quickly as two weeks after receiving a signed agreement.
· Provision the pilot so that 400-500 people can participate in the pilot.
We customize our solutions for each client – need more? Just ask. · Brand this instance with the appropriate logo or banner to represent your institution.
· Provide comprehensive support for this pilot instance as a mission-critical service.
How else could you assess a learning management system but use it for courses? · Install stable upgrades as provided by Sakai developers in coordination with your staff.
We believe in the “no surprises” model of support. · Monitor performance of your pilot continuously and address limiting factors as needed.
· Provide 24 by 7 support throughout the piloting experience.
· Integrate Sakai with your authentication and student information systems for longer term pilots.
What does a pilot like this cost? Our basic pilot runs for six months and is limited to 400 accounts. At this level, the pilot is provided at no charge when your organization contracts for one day of onsite training at $4,900 plus expenses. Our hands-on training will break through the barriers that often defeat the best intentions for piloting.
This training, which is absolutely essential to the success of any assessment, involves two trainers and a full-day’s curriculum for up to 30 attendees and one follow up session online. The curriculum focuses on creating courses, organizing and uploading content, assessments and using collaborative tools for faculty. It also focuses on supporting the staff that support faculty (a “train the trainer” approach).
Throughout our seven years of hosting and supporting Sakai and its predecessors, we have learned that access to a pilot instance without training is not likely to create faculty stakeholdership or provide useful information for an LMS selection. Clients that we have trained have made confident decisions about their LMS, and nearly all have opted to move into exclusive production with Sakai. Our terms of support for the pilot programs are just as strong as our support for production systems so that you can rely on them for teaching courses and gaining authentic insights into Sakai.
Longer term or larger pilots provide the opportunity to integrate Sakai with authentication and student information systems for automating logins, course creations and course enrollments and more. Please contact Longsight for information on the costs of a longer and integrated pilot experience.
